# Essential Filters

<figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2Fu1n0500Q1zWUX1od9wAZ%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=bdec0cab-f21c-48ab-8eb1-8ebdb86e29d5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**The essentials zone filters provides all the most critical filters and controls you will need to use for ZoneVue Pro.**

* **ZoneScore (no visible in menu, only on chart)**
  * The ZoneScore combines various data points including volume, price action and other variables to form a composite score. You can control the creation of zones using our unique score system that will quickly allow you to see what zones may be the best to trade against.&#x20;
* **Close Above or Below Previous Highs/Lows**
  * This setting only permits zones to be drawn when price breaks above the previous market highs or lows of the day.
  * This is a powerful setting that will keep you focused on zones that matter and will not show any zones that are going against the trend as well.&#x20;
  * Enabling may significantly reduce the # of zones shown. It will show zones that were a result of price breakouts, which can be the ideal place to enter.
  * The low or high is determined during market hours as specified in this indicator
* **Min # of prior candles**&#x20;
  * This setting allows you to manually specify how many prior candles price must break above or drop below in order to trigger the creation of a zone.
* **Aggressive Mode (deprecated, only available in Ver 3.X)**
  * By default, ZoneVue Pro will only display zones that conform to 4 types of zone formations. Drop base Drop, Drop base Rally, Rally base Rally and Rally base Drop.&#x20;
  * Enabling Aggressive Mode will allow you to see additional zones formed by explosive move candles that do not fit within the 4 types of formations.
  * Aggressive mode will show more zones, but they may be of lesser quality and price may be less likely to pivot at that zone.&#x20;
  * To make aggressive mode show higher quality zones, increase the explosive factor setting.
* **Use High/Low for zones**
  * This will draw the zones around the high and low of the basing candle
  * Disabling will cause the zone to be drawn around the low or high of the basing candle and the base of the wick.
    * For supply zones, the zone will be draw around the high and base of the wick
    * For demand zones, the zone will be drawn around the low and base of the wick
  * Enabling zones to be drawn around the high and low of the basing candle will increase chances of a filled order but increased risk
  * Disabling will reduce chances of getting filled but will reduce risk
* **Explosive Factor (deprecated, only available in Ver 3.X)**
  * The higher the value, the higher quality of zones shown when aggressive mode is enabled
  * When aggressive mode is not enabled, changing this value will have no effect on the zones shown
* **Limit Zone Creation to market hours**
  * This will force the creation of zones to be within the market hours time frame as specified in the settings of the indictor.
  * This can be effective in eliminating zones formed during pre or after market hours that may not be as quality of zones and price may break through easier due to lower volume.
* **Hide Supply/Demand zones (deprecated, only available in Ver 3.X)**
  * This allows you to show only a certain type of zone, creating better focus, especially on days where the market is clearly trending in a certain direction
* **Trend Filter**
  * This is a powerful option and will attempt to filter out zones that are going against the trend. This trend filter works by using the 100 day EMA.&#x20;
  * A blue EMA line will be drawn by default on your chart. You can remove by going into the indicator or strategy and setting the color to transparent in the plots section at the very bottom of your settings window
    \*

    ```
    <figure><img src="/files/d9UrwbAwvblAGrJQpsh8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
    * NOTE: If a zone is formed at the time price is below the EMA, that zone will remain visible, even if price goes above the EMA later.
    ```

# Non-Essential Zone Filters

<figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2Fq19oz9nVfsGqJvcxIBF6%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=20c6b3ff-0722-4b00-af28-7e811d1b20a2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **The non-essentials zone filters provides less used filters but have still provide important settings to be aware of**
  * **Don't Display Zones Formed on the Current Day**
    * This is a powerful setting that will not show any zones formed on the current day and will only show zones formed on prior days. The can potentially allow you to get in on zones formed during the previous day and having the ultimate in focus on where to get in and get out
    * The risk is that you miss out on all the zones formed during the current day and price may never reach any zones formed on prior days
    * Default is disabled
    * Recommended: Disabled
  * **Allow Explosive Moves to Close in Previous Zones**
    * This will allow a zone to be formed, even though the explosive moves bar closed into a previously formed zoned.
  * **Show Invalidated Zones**
    * Will allow all previous zones that were invalidated to be shown
  * **Allow Overlapping Zones**
    * This will allow zones to be formed that overlap an existing zone.
    * Default is disabled

# Overlap and Zone Proximity Filter (deprecated - Only in Ver 3.X)

<figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2FZNwPv5iiRTa5OsXVtI4u%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=efa63740-670d-4a64-8bd5-00636e6e43f7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The settings below can effectively control the zones show and offers granular control that serves to further reduce zones that appear that may be of lower quality or “false positive” zones.&#x20;

**Allow Overlapping Zones**

* This will allow zones to be formed that overlap an existing zone.
* Default is disabled

Deprecated functions and no longer applicable to version 2.0+

* **Only Allow Zones that don’t close on previous highs/lows or close opens.**
  * This is an experimental feature.
  * Default is disabled.&#x20;
  * This setting prevents zones from being formed if the close price of the explosive bar is equal to any previous bars high, low, close or open.
* **Min # of bars after zone is touched before new zone**
  * Default is disabled.&#x20;
  * Setting is specified in the Min Bars Apart field&#x20;
  * This prevents zones from being formed if a prior zone formed was touched within the number of bars specified.
  * For example, if the setting is at 5 and a supply zone is touched.
    * Then price sells off from there and then another explosive move happens 5 bars later, creating another supply zone, this zone will not be drawn.
    * The reason is because the most recent zone that was touched was within the number of bars of the new zone being formed.
* **Min distance between zones (controlled by tick threshold**
  * If enabled, the value set in the setting ‘Tick Distance Threshold’ will prevent any new zones being formed if the distance between the old and new zone is equal to or less than range in ticks in the setting.
  * Default is disabled

# Zone Dynamic Expansion (deprecated - only in Ver 3.X)

<figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2F4BtTGD9c5y9ewEtXEiL1%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=61ed896c-f7f6-4ad5-bdf3-6135b8cecf56" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

These settings offer control over a powerful feature which will dynamically expand the zone range based on the proximity of additional basing candles based on a specified tick distance.&#x20;

* **# of Additional Basing Candles**
  * This sets the maximum # of basing candles the zone can expand around.
  * Default is 1
* **Zone Padding (in ticks)**
  * This value adds a manual padding to the bottom of demand zones and to the top of supply zones
  * Default is 1
* **Maximum Expansion Range in Ticks from 1st Basing Candle**
  * This value sets the maximum amount in ticks below the low of the demand zone and above the high of the supply zone that additional basing candles can be used to form a wider zone.&#x20;
  * E.g, Assume the setting is at 8.
    * If a zone has a demand zone basing candle with a low at 4000 and there are additional basing candles that have lows that are no more than 8 ticks lower than the basing candles low, than these additional basing candles will be used to form the zone. The zone will expand to encompass them.
  * Default is 1

# Market Hours/Opening Range Settings

<figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2FFBW5XE1050vl7n4zxdOo%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=30bae4a0-b4c0-41b1-95f2-6b2d29bb26b8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Market Open Time**
  * Default setting is 6:30am PST
* **Market Close Time**
  * Default setting is 1:00pm PST&#x20;
* **Opening Range Duration**
  * Default is 15 minutes and this is a recommended duration

Additional settings not found in the indicator drop down are found directly within the indicator/strategy settings control

The visual drawing of the market high and market low is set during this time frame

**ZoneVue Pro - Opening Range Indicator**

<figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2FzW99ASqez3SoeDQMJRP8%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=b965b13b-84a7-45bf-bf61-e28a74057895" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Start Time: The opening of the market
* End Time: The time when you want the opening range to end (usually 15 minutes after the open)
* This allows you to add a line above and below the market opening range, as defined below.
* The start and end time is recommended to have a duration of 15 minutes.&#x20;
* You can control the appearing of the lines above and below using the thickness and color settings.&#x20;

# Zone Settings

Within indicator settings

<figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2FZPcW6hklGYOwr02Ob4wj%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=3e16e1a5-4ed6-41e7-841a-cf9dcdef4589" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Reward to Risk Ratio**
  * Allows you to display the appropriate take profit amount and price based on zone risk and contract qty
* **Order QTY**
  * The number of contracts you are trading
  * A factor in the calculation of zone risk, take profit amount and price labels on the zone.
  * This does not affect any strategy order placement or calculations and is purely related to the indicator
* **Hide Supply Zone/Demand Zone**
  * Check to box to display only zones of a certain type
* **Entry and Stop Loss Padding**
  * This will adjust the calculation of zone risk based on the tick buffer you enter

# Zone Color and Font Settins

These settings are found within the indicator/strategy settings page and not within the drop down menu as other settings described

<figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2FZG3R5Hpo8XHZai2fg64Y%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=f266dbf9-8a4b-4fae-99cc-371b993ddf7d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Supply Zone/Demand Zone Color**
  * Adjusts the color of the zones to your choice
  * Recommended to keep on defaults
* **Zone Color Touched Opacity**
  * Adjusts the opacity level once a zone is touched.&#x20;
  * Touched means the price reaches or drops below the high of the demand zone or reachs or exceeds the low of the supply zone
  * Recommended to leave defaults
* **Zone Color Untouched Opacity**
  * Adjusts the opacity level of untouched/fresh zones
  * Recommended to leave defaults
* **Show Zone Score Label Only**
  * Hides all other zone labels except for the zone score
* **Zone Label Font Color and Size**

  * Allows control over the font color and size of the zone labels show after the current bar such as zone score, take profit, etc.

## **Trading Mode**

Offers various modes for automated trading

<figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2FEzTF6wzhyJHZRF7Yu44G%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=135892a1-15d7-4e7a-82f4-d268bbd636a9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Fixed take profit**&#x20;
  * This does not use a trailing stop at all and will always trade with a fixed take profit, based on your risk management settings
  * **Profit Target (see Risk Management section)**

    * Automatic Position Sizing Mode
      * The fixed take profit will automatically be calculated based on your risk settings
    * Risk Management - Manual Mode

    <figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2F2Qxt5UnuMmlqjPdtZgzj%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=b23994e2-9cae-4fe1-8d00-cb726e5eb8bd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

    * The value entered in the Fixed Take Profit (currency) field is the amount in currency you want for your take profit.&#x20;
    * The order qty is factored into where this profit target order is placed
* **Scalp Mode (currently in beta)**
* **Trailing Stop Based on Zones**
  * This is a very powerful way of trading and is the recommended way to trade if you are using a trailing stop
  * The stop will not move until a new zone is formed.&#x20;
  * The stop will be placed at the low of the new demand zone or high of the new supply zone
  * For example, if you are going long on a demand zone and price starts moving upwards, the stop will remain in place until a new demand zone is formed above your current filled market position. The stop will then move below the low of the new demand zone, locking in gains and moving to a safe position that is less likely to result in you being stopped out, as zones act as support and resistance areas in this situation.
    * The opposite example will occur when going short and the stop will move down only when new supply zone is formed below your current filled market position
* **Incremental Trailing Stop**
  * This will not use any take profit and will trail the current price based on an incremental value
  * The incremental value is the amount the price needs to move in currency before the stop will move. Based on the risk of the zone (e.g $200 zone risk) means the stop will move in $200 increments.
  * Trailing Stop Incremental Multiplier will allow you to set the distance the stop will maintain always between the current price.&#x20;
    * For example, if you set the multiplier to 4 and the zone risk amount is $200, this means that the stop will not start moving until price has reached at least $800 gap (multiplier of 4 times zone risk of $200), between the stop. The stop will increment down by the zone risk amount ($200, always maintaining a distance of $800 between the current price.&#x20;
* Trailing Stop Based on EMA

***

## **Incremental Multiplier (incremental trading only)**

* This will not use any take profit and will trail the current price based on an incremental value
* The incremental value is the amount the price needs to move in currency before the stop will move. Based on the risk of the zone (e.g $200 zone risk) means the stop will move in $200 increments.
* Trailing Stop Incremental Multiplier will allow you to set the distance the stop will maintain always between the current price.&#x20;
  * For example, if you set the multiplier to 4 and the zone risk amount is $200, this means that the stop will not start moving until price has reached at least $800 gap (multiplier of 4 times zone risk of $200), between the stop. The stop will increment down by the zone risk amount ($200, always maintaining a distance of $800 between the current price.&#x20;

***

## **Take profit at opposing zone (recommended way to trade fixed take profit)**

* This is a very powerful way to trade and will intelligently place the the take profit at the nearest opposing zone to your trade.
* For example, if you took a trade on a demand zone, you are going long. When your entry is filled at the demand zone, your take profit will be placed at the nearest supply zone, above the current price.

***

## **Include EMA Take Profit Mode**

* This mode will automatically close long positions that close above the EMA line and have a minimum amount of profit and then close back below the EMA line. You can enable this mode to any trading mode.

***

## **Entry Padding in Ticks**

* Value is in ticks
* This setting controls the amount in ticks that you wish to have your order entry price set at above a demand zone or below a supply zone

***

## **Stop Loss Padding in Ticks**

* Value is in ticks
* This setting controls the amount in ticks that you wish to have your stop loss price set at below a demand zone or above a supply zone

# Risk Management

Is the main section of options that controls all of your risk management, including order qty, trailing stop, padding and more.

**This section controls risk when using the Automatic Position Sizing mode (recommended)**

<figure><img src="https://823455948-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8K0qqal4M0In1OeFZtCh%2Fuploads%2FZ70ZAjFbiJAQv5DlzNY2%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=afc1d4ab-ed8d-4e67-90b8-b49aa0ac8128" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Automatic Position Sizing Mode**
  * Enables this mode. If unchecked, the manual Risk Management mode and its settings discussed below will be used
* **Display PNL**
  * This will display the PNL for active positions
* **Account Size**
  * The balance of your account (if live), or the drawdown amount (if a prop firm account)
* **Max Risk Per Trade**
  * Value is a percent
  * Recommended max risk per trade is 3%
* **Max Risk Per Day**&#x20;
  * Value is a percent
  * Recommended max risk per day is 10%
* **Reward/Risk Ratio**
  * Value is a whole number
  * This is a very important value and will be used to determine where your take profit will be (Fixed Take Profit Mode)
  * If you use a value of 5 and the risk of the zone if $150, then your take profit will be 5 times this at a price that will result in $750 in profit.

# Recommended Settings

The indicator is designed to work on all time frames and trading instruments. However, certain products work better than others and respond better to zone formation.&#x20;

Volatility means better quality zones, so if you are trading an instrument with lower volatility, it is less likely to yield as good of results for drawing zones compared to others.

We recommend trading instruments that have higher volatility.&#x20;

# Indicator

You should experiment with the settings to find the best results for your trading strategy and style as well as risk tolerance

Below are default settings that should work for most trading environments.&#x20;

# Strategy

Below are recommend settings to trade with to lock in gains quickly with a 2:1 reward/risk ratio.&#x20;

A zone trailing stop is not recommended to be used on higher time frames such as 5 Min+, as these time frames don't produce as many zones so your stop may not move frequent enough.

For higher time frames, if you wish to use a trailing stop, it's recommend to use the incremental trailing stop.
